"The best Irish traditional group in the business" - Irish American News
Instrumental Album of the Year - 2005 - LiveIreland.com
Button accordionist Paul Brock and fiddler Manus McGuire, two of Ireland's most celebrated traditional musicians, team up to front the impressive Brock McGuire Band. The two have been at the forefront of Irish music for many years and favorites of Green Linnet fans, through their work with Moving Cloud (which they formed in 1989, and included future Lúnasa flutist Kevin Crawford) and Manus also in Buttons & Bows (with his brother Seamus and box-player Jackie Daly). Both bands, ranked among Ireland's finest, introduced these Clare-based virtuosi to international audiences.
For their new band, they've brought on two young lions from Galway, the All-Ireland champions Enda Scahill on banjo and his brother Fergal Scahill on fiddle and guitar. Fergal is a superb multi-instrumentalist, and "Enda does things on the banjo which should be impossible," says The Irish American News. Irish Music Magazine adds "If the trad banjo has a future, Enda is the man to take it there." On accompaniment are pianist Denis Carey and keyboardist Dennis Morrison.
The band's eagerly awaited debut CD, Brock McGuire Band, is a potent blast of traditional Irish tunes, played with passion, precision, and a rousing creativity that often reaches fever pitch. LiveIreland.com named it Instrumental Album of the Year, exclaiming "There is simply no better band in Irish traditional music. Each of the musicians is a master of the form. This is, quite simply, perfect." The Irish Echo proclaimed it "stirring," putting it in the year’s Top 20 CDs, and The Irish Times calls it "a pristine collection." Check out this new selection, led by two grandmasters of the genre!
