The Duhks Are Back!

June 24, 2014

The Duhks are reunited and rejuvenated on their "superb" (Relix) new record, Beyond The Blue, out today, and are ready to reclaim their place as one of Canada’s premiere artists of the neo-folk revivalist era. Produced by Mike + Ruthy (The Mammals), the 12-song album shows The Duhks in the best form of their 13-year career. Featuring founding members Leonard Polodak (banjo/lead vocals) and Jessee Havey (lead vocals), the new album welcomes three new members to the lineup, Rosie Newton (fiddle), Kevin Garcia (drums/percussion), and Colin Savoie-Levac (guitar/bouzouki).

The Duhks’ cohesive blend of different downhome styles is already turning heads. The Huffington Post proclaims Beyond the Blue a "tasty potpourri of cultural influences, styles and substance," and No Depression dubbed it "amazing." The record has already been feature in CMTEdge’s Top 10 Americana Summer Picks and Folk Alley’s New Music Picks for June 2014. The title track debuted at #26 on AMA Chart and as the #1 most added single, and also debuted on Folk-DJ (#51) and Roots Music Report (#5) radio charts.

The Duhks will be touring extensively throughout the US this summer and fall.

Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper Sneak Peek From New Album

June 18, 2014

On Down the LineProduced by Jeff White, New Album Showcases Cleveland’s Fiery Fiddling and More

Since the band got together in 2008, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper have made their mark in the bluegrass world. Their newest album, ON DOWN THE LINE, is set for release on July 22, 2014. Led by nine-time International Bluegrass Music Association’s Fiddle Player of the Year, Michael Cleveland, the group’s virtuoisic style and traditional bluegrass sound has never been better represented.

The album’s fourteen tracks showcase Flamekeeper’s rich instrumental blend and tight three-part vocal harmonies, with tunes that span from straight-ahead bluegrass (“Fiddlin’ Joe," "Orange Blossom Special") to melodic, heart-felt songs such as "Just Call Me Crazy" and the imaginative reworking of the traditional "Jack O’Diamonds" as a solo fiddle tour de force. There is also a suprise twist with a hard-driving bluegrass take on the Julian Lennon song "Much Too Late For Goodbye," which is propelled by instrumental trades between banjo player Glenn Gibson and Cleveland. Grounding the driving forces of Gibson, Cleveland, and Nathan Livers on the mandolin, are bassist Tyler Griffith and guitarist Josh Richards, who contributed several originals to the project, including the neo-grass original, "Johnny Thompson."

Compass Records Signs David Mayfield

June 03, 2014

Compass Records Group is pleased to announce the addition of David Mayfield to the roster. Mayfield’s new album, Strangers, is slated for an early September release. The new album is a bold affair that reaches into the avant garde while still giving a nod to Mayfield’s musical roots. Mayfield’s goal was to record a timeless album—avoiding anything overtly modern without going retro. Mayfield says that a series of life changes inspired the songs on the project. "The underlying tone of struggle and trying to gain ground gave a sincerity to the music that makes me feel like I have finally found my voice. My friends say I sound more like myself than ever before."  Mayfield will be showcasing tracks from the new album while on tour this  summer with Parade bandmates Jason Edwards (drums) and Jenn Star-Symch (fiddle, synth) and with John Warren Watson (bass, vocals).

David Mayfield may be one of the most quirky performers on the roots/Americana scene. He came up on the bluegrass circuit, winning contests on mandolin and guitar, playing bass with his family bluegrass band and even doing a stint living in Bill Monroe’s old bus, Bluegrass Breakdown. Mayfield’s writing is equally inspired by Doyle Lawson, Randy Newman and Simon & Garfunkel. He oozes personality on stage and his boundless energy and sense of humor make him a natural frontman. Since forming his own band The David Mayfield Parade in 2011, he has been touring almost non-stop including many appearances with The Avett Brothers (both with The Parade and sitting in with The Avetts), Mumford & Sons, Willie Nelson, The Barenaked Ladies as well as with his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield (including an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman). Mayfield is also a Grammy-nominated producer and mix engineer (he produced 4 albums last year and already has 3 under his belt in 2014).
